How Long Does a Pre-Purchase Car Inspection Take?

Most SMGLR inspections take around 50–90 minutes depending on the package and vehicle, with the report delivered within 1 hour after completion.

Quick answer

Most SMGLR pre-purchase inspections take approximately 50–90 minutes on site, depending on the package, vehicle condition, access and the amount of evidence that needs to be recorded.

SMGLR Essential inspection time

SMGLR Essential is generally around 50–60 minutes. It focuses on the core mechanical and safety inspection, core fault-code scan, PPSR, key photos and the digital report.

Premium and SMGLR Plus inspection time

SMGLR Premium is generally around 75–90 minutes because it includes deeper diagnostics, supported live-data review, additional interior and electrical checks, visible underbody and leak assessment where safely accessible, and a full interior and exterior walk-around video. Plus builds on Premium with the Full Body & Paint Assessment Report and additional buyer support, so it generally takes 90+ minutes.

When do I get the report?

SMGLR delivers the digital inspection report and key vehicle outcome within 1 hour of the on-site inspection being completed. Your inspector also explains the important findings directly so you are not left trying to interpret the report by yourself.

Why some inspections take longer

Complex vehicles, multiple diagnostic faults, seller access delays, difficult road-test conditions or a large number of findings can increase the time required. SMGLR prioritises the quality of the inspection over rushing to hit an exact minute count.
